Course Guide: General Chemistry 1/3
This document is a course guide for the first of three courses in the college-level general chemistry series. I attend a school with a quarter system, meaning I took the series in three parts. If you go to a school with the semester system, consider looking at the second part of this series.
While taking general chemistry, I struggled to understand many of the concepts, mainly because the way my teacher taught the information didn’t always make a lot of sense to me. It often felt like they assumed we had prior knowledge while teaching us. For students who either didn’t learn or didn’t remember the information they thought we already knew, it became difficult to keep up.
Since I struggled in the class, I wanted to make sure that other people don’t have to do the same! Having now completed the entire series and done research on how to better explain concepts that I had trouble with, I have created course guides for each section that should help you get through it.
I know…general chemistry isn’t the most exciting class for everyone…but you’ll survive I promise! And this course guide should certainly help.
This document is a course guide, not a cheat sheet or cram session study guide. While it may seem long, it has explanations for all the concepts I covered in the first course in the series and some practice problems that walk the reader through each step in solving them. While this should be a great resource, remember that your class may cover slightly more or less information or in a different order. Nevertheless, this should generally cover most of the first third of the chemistry series, regardless of your school.
Make the most of this resource and study hard! I hope you don’t have to struggle the same way I did (because it was NOT fun.)
Best of luck!
